As another season draws to a close, it is the time when many footballers call time on their careers. Some go into coaching, others into management and a handful into punditry.

However, for every Alan Hansen there is a Arjan De Zeeuw, and for every Gary Neville there is a Faustino Asprilla.

Football Ticket Pad have compiled a list of the Top 10 Ex-Premier League stars who’s careers took an unexpected turn once they hung up their boots:

Djibril Cisse (DJ): After retiring in October 2015, the former Liverpool striker has turned his hand with his own fashion label, Mr Lenoir. However, nowadays he is a DJ and was recently spotted performing as a warm-up DJ for Mariah Carey in Paris.

Lee Bowyer (Carp Fishing lake): The ex Leeds United, Newcastle United and West Ham United midfielder played his whole career in England and will be famously remembered for his on-field fight with Kieron Dyer at Newcastle. However, after playing his last game in 2012, Bowyer has found a new career in France where he runs a carp fishing lake in the Champagne region named ‘Etang de Bows’, which translates to ‘Bows Lake.’

Leon McKenzie (Boxer): The 37 year old had a promising career which was ruined by injury. The former Norwich City striker has had a sensational turn of fortune where he now plies his trade as a professional super middleweight boxer. McKenzie has had nine professional bouts and his most recent fight was against Kelvin Young in January, who he knocked out in 43 seconds.

Frank Lebouef (Actor): The former Chelsea midfielder and World Cup winner has gone on to take part in an Oscar nominated film since he ended his playing career. The 48 year-old played a role as a Swiss doctor in the Stephen Hawking biopic, The Theory of Everything in 2014.

Faustino Asprilla (Condom business): The eccentric ex-Newcastle stiker was often unpredictable on the pitch and he seems to be the same off it too. In 2014, the Columbian and a group of friends launched their own flavoured condom line called ‘Tino’. Asprilla also turned down an offer to take part in a Italian porn film in 2013.

Arjan De Zeeuw (Private Investigator): The no-nonsense centre half played for a host of Premier League clubs including Wigan Athletic and Portsmouth. However, since retiring he has returned to his native Netherlands where he is a Private Investigator for the police.

Thomas Gravesen (Poker player): Since retiring in 2009 the former Everton mifielder now has a value of over £80 million after investing into a number of businesses and moving to Las Vegas where he is a professional poker player.

Fabien Barthez (Racing driver): A year after retiring in 2007,the  former Manchester United goalkeeper began a career in motorsport. Barthez was crowned French GT champion in 2013 and will race in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race later this year.

Kevin Kyle (Storeman): The former Sunderland striker was earning around £10,000 a week during his playing career. Now aged 33, the former Scotland international works as a Storeman on ships in the Shetland Islands catering for offshore workers.

David May (Wine Merchant): The left-back who played for Manchester United and Blackburn can now be found working as a wine merchant, importing wine from South Africa. Alongside his wine exploits, May can also be found working as a football coach and appearing on MUTV, Manchester United’s television channel.
