Since Farhad Moshiri took over as part-owner of Everton football club back in 2016, there has been talk of a new stadium. The sight and planning became public knowledge long ago, as well as the intentions of Moshiri and the club.

Despite this, it is only within the last year that official permission has been granted for the building of this stadium. Just a few months ago, the construction process finally began.

If the stadium build goes to plan, it will undoubtedly be one of the most impressive modern stadiums in the country, but Everton will need to improve on the pitch to mirror that.

In this article, we’re going to take a look at everything you need to know about Everton’s new stadium, as well as an overview of Moshiri’s time at Everton and how this project will impact the city of Liverpool. Let's explore the ins and outs of Bramley Moore Stadium.

Farhad Moshiri’s Ownership Of Everton

Farhad Moshiri is an Iranian-British businessman who has a vast repertoire of successful business ventures. After making a fair amount of money, he bought shares in Arsenal but found that he wanted to be more heavily involved in owning a club.

Due to this, he sold his shares in Arsenal and bought a 49.9% stake in Everton. At this point, he became the majority shareholder and essentially the owner of the club.

Since then, things haven’t quite gone to plan for the money man. He hired Ronald Koeman to manage Everton alongside a new director of football, former Leicester scout Steve Walsh.

Despite a successful first season, this stint turned out to be quite disastrous. The first major transfer window under Farhad saw the club buy too many players for high prices and high wages.

A few months later Everton sat in the relegation zone and had to hire Sam Allardyce to keep them safe. The same thing happened under Marco Silva until eventually Carlo Ancelotti arrived to save the day. Only he didn’t.

Ancelotti certainly lifted the spirits of everyone at the club and things seemed to be going well, until the latter half of his final season when the team started playing a lacklustre style of football.

Perhaps Ancelotti saw the writing on the wall and discovered Everton had spent far too much money to afford anyone in his second transfer window due to financial fair play rules. Real Madrid came calling and Ancelotti was gone.

Now with Benitez in charge, the club has sacked their director of football Marcel Brands and is trying to head in a new direction once again. Most recently, at the time of writing, Benitez had been sacked with Frank Lampard being appointed to assist in the relegation battle. The blues now find themselves in a relegation fight once more under Lampard.

Whether or not it will work this time remains to be seen, but it is clear that Everton needs to start getting results in order to justify a new stadium like Bramley Moore. So, what exactly will the stadium feature?

Bramley Moore Stadium

The site of Everton’s new ground is Bramley Moore Dock, an old disused part of Liverpool docks. This area has been derelict for several years and its surrounding areas haven’t seen much business either.

However, with some hotels and bars popping up nearby, it looks as though this part of the city center is set to be rejuvenated, and the stadium would be a great touch.

The stadium is set to have 52,888 seats and loads of exciting cutting-edge features and will be right next to the famous River Mersey. This building project will be the largest single-site private sector development in the country and reports suggest that it will bring 1.3 billion pounds to the UK economy.

With all of the events and tourism that will come along with the stadium, it is believed that the regeneration of a once-thriving area of Liverpool will be taking place over the next few years.

In terms of its design, the stadium has a distinctive bowl look. To fill in the waters of the dock to allow the stadium to be built, ships have had to go out into the River Mersey and redistribute thousands of tons of sand into the dock.

Many of the historic features of this site will be kept and renovated. One such feature is a hydraulic tower, which will be an iconic part of the design in the area.

Due to the new stadium, the waiting list for an Everton season ticket has grown over the past few years; many current season ticket holders will be transferring their seats once the new ground is built, but this will be strange.

Goodison Park has stood since the late 1800s and is one of the few remaining traditional football grounds in top-flight football. But the stadium is going to be redeveloped to feature affordable housing, a multi-purpose health centre, a youth enterprise zone, and green spaces.

This is set to be positive for the community and will hopefully bring many opportunities to those that live in the surrounding areas.

What Should We Expect From Everton?

With a construction cost of around £500 million, the stadium is set to open for the start of the 2024-2025 Premier League season.

Could Everton be achieving the success they crave by this point? And what exactly is the bare minimum they should be achieved with a stadium of this magnitude?

This seems like an achievable goal for Everton over the next few years. The important thing is not just to qualify, it is to become a team that consistently qualifies and solidifies itself as a European presence.
